A new GPS and locative media application named Discovery and developed by students of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, received sensational response at an exhibition held in London that showcased, among others, innovative and creative mobile applications.
The entry, by students drawn from multi-disciplines in Limkokwing University campus in London was adjudged the best and entitled its creators to membership in an exclusive club in Mayfair London.
Club membership benefits include a one year all access pass to exclusive clubs in Mayfair.
Graphic design, photography, professional communication and creative multimedia works were also shown to the visitors during the exhibition which was held at the University premises in Piccadilly Street.
Three other mobile applications that also made it to the finals and the exhibition were Bluetooth advertising and new marketing initiative application named Urban Touch; a new application for supermarkets to increase revenue, called Mobile Shopping; and a personality shaper application called Shaper.
The highlight of the exhibition, titled Limkokwing UNIty, was the presentation of business plans by Limkokwing students for their new mobile applications.
The winning team will work on commercializing the mobile application. The project will be realised in International collaboration between the KL and London Campuses.
The students grouped in four different teams were asked to design a mobile application as well as a complete business proposal and each team was structured to act like a media start up company.
"The mobile applications were developed by interfaculty teams. Students had the possibility to gain exposure in their anticipated career field," said Max Schleser, Head of Faculty at Limkokwing London.
He added that students could choose a role in their teams as each team consisted of students from the faculties of Information Technology, Business and Creative and Multimedia studies.
"The event was a great success,´said Schleser.
"The students worked very hard to present all their outstanding works. Like in an Industry environment we were working to a tight deadline.
"A great team effort made it possible to achieve this excellent and innovative work."
The visitors were entertained during the exhibition by music performance by students of the Limkokwing English department. Malaysian delicacies were also available, courtesy of Taste.
"A lot of thought and excellent work by the students and they have raised the standards with their high visual quality. At the end of the day, it is how their work can attract and retain visitors' attention," said Haliza Hashim-Doyle, TV3 Malaysia Correspondent.
