    Patriots Wrap Up ABL Title

The Philippine Patriots picked up their third successive victory over Indonesia's Satria Muda BritAma this weekend and secured the first ever GE Asean Basketball League title.

Having settled the first two ties on home soil; 78-68 and 72-53, the Patriots traveled to the BritAma Arena in Jakarta to stylishly finish of their impressive run in the best-of-five series; 75-67. Indonesian coach Fictor Roring said "the Patriots deserve the win".

The Pilipino side, which knocked out the KL dragons on route to the finals, placed 3rd in the league standings after 15 rounds of fixtures. The Patriots were immediately tipped as favorites when the competition began back in October of 2009.

Patriots coach Louie Alas commented on his team's overall campaign stating, "the whole season we really emphasized on defense". According to GMA News he had told his team to "play as if we're in the jungle".

However, much of their success has been attributed to the two American imports, Jason Dixon and Gabe Freeman. Dixon, the Captain, picked up 28 points and 12 rebounds in Sunday's crucial fixture.

It has been a mixture of local talent and interest from overseas that has bought about so much attention to the newly-established ABL. "This has been a fantastic start to our inaugural season and the league can only get stronger" commented CEO Kuhan Foo who expressed interest in adding more teams to the competition.

The Patriots will return in six months time to try again for the Southeast Asian basketball championship but our hopes are with the Dragons who stand a good chance at stealing the title and achieving glory this upcoming season.
