You'd never believe it, but clocking in the Overtime is fun, delicious and just that little bit intoxicating. Yes folks, there is booze in this review, so you know the rules!
By PAULINE WONG

Having only opened around five months ago, Overtime, which is located next to KL Live, has been getting good response from the working crowd due to their specialty fresh Starker beer, the good food and the Ladies Night promotion (Wednesdays) of a free bottle of vodka for every four girls at a table.

Me and a colleague kicked off our review with (wait for it) an ice cold pint of Starker beer. Being the only joint to serve this German fresh beer (fresh beer means it is kept for no longer than seven days after the keg is opened), there are two variants to this smooth and slightly fruity drink: Aromatic and Lager.

While the Aromatic had a fruity tinge to it, the Lager was light and smooth. At RM30 a pint, with promotions of 'buy one pint free half pint' from 7pm-9pm, it is perfect for those who want a cold one at the end of the day.

And while the beads of water formed on the glasses of beer, we were served a large, sour, spicy, kick-a$$ plate of Calamari Scampi (RM16), which is an innocent-looking dish of fresh and tender calamari, sharp on the tongue to set weaker stomachs on fire, all topped off with thinly-sliced and crunchy green mango. The little rings of squid were tender without being mushy. It was also nicely complemented by a sweet and sour sauce, that was not overpowering.

Also on the table was the new Crispy Mushrooms (RM13), which is a basketful of thin, deep fried oyster mushrooms. Light and slightly salty, it veers on the oily side after it cools down a bit, but is surprisingly addictive.

We also tried a beautifully shiny, crimson serving of Char-Grilled Chicken (RM21). With a tinge of paprika, it was crispy and robust. It is also served with a nutty, slightly tangy and sweetish acar and crispy popadam.

But what takes the cake is the Fire Pork (RM25).

This crispy, salty, flavourful meat treat is cut from the pork belly, and is coated in a light golden batter, fried and served with a Thai-inspired sauce, which is all hand-made.Despite being fried, the meat does not lose the juiciness, and is the perfect complement to the beer. I highly recommend it, folks.

We also got to try three special cocktails - Lychee Slush (RM24), Caribbean Night (RM13) and Go Naked (RM21). The Lychee Slush is a concoction of vodka, Starker beer and lychee liqueur, while the Caribbean Night is a delicious, ice-cream soda like combo of Bailey's Irish Cream and Starker Beer. The Go Naked is quite an acquired taste of beer, gin and lemon juice with a dash of grenadine for colour.

So, if you're craving a pint, head over to Overtime. It has good food, great beer and a cosy atmosphere - what more can you ask for?
