Fresh from a 7-0 hammering of North Korea, Portugal have their sights set on beating Brazil to finish top in Group G. Carlos Queiroz's men recorded their first win of this year's World Cup in emphatic fashion by brushing aside North Korea on Monday.

The seven-goal victory means Portugal are all but assured of a place in the last 16 in South Africa along with Brazil, who have already qualified after winning against North Korea and the Ivory Coast.

Whoever wins out of Portugal and Brazil will claim top spot in the group, with Tiago relishing the prospect of facing the South American giants.

"It was very good, we're happy because we scored goals," said two-goal hero Tiago following the thrashing of North Korea.

"That's good, now we're closer to passing through into the knockout stage.

"We played good football, we're happy for that as much as for scoring a lot of goals.

"The most important thing was getting the three points.

"We've done that and we're happy, now we start to think about playing Brazil and looking to finish first in the group."

The former Chelsea midfielder added: "Now we can breathe and we want to go through. Of course to do that finishing first is better than second, so let's see.

"We go into the match with confidence now. It's a difficult game against Brazil, they are strong as well."

Tiago deputised on Monday for playmaker Deco, who has admitted that he faces a battle to be fit in time for a showdown against his native Brazil.

Asked about his hip injury, Deco said: "It's so-so. I'll try to be better for the game but we'll see. I'm still having treatment and I hope to be available."

He added: "I have nothing to prove against Brazil, I just want to play and help my team. What is important now is qualifying for the next phase.

"We want to play well against them, we had a good game against North Korea, controlled and game and scored seven goals. We're enjoying it now, the win was important."

Brazil, meanwhile, will be without the inspirational Kaka.

The Real Madrid star will serve a one-match ban having been controversially sent off against the Ivory Coast for an off the-the-ball foul on Kader Keita.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo said of his Madrid colleague: "It's not fair because Kaka did nothing in my opinion, and now he won't play against us.

"He didn't deserve that red card.

"I saw the game and I spoke with him about it afterwards. He was angry at the time but after the game he's cool, he understands it's part of the game."

Monday's win saw Ronaldo break a two-year spell without a competitive goal and Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho believes the whole team will benefit from that.

"Of course we're pleased for him, it's important for him," said the Chelsea defender.

"He'd been a little bit disappointed because he wants to score in every game.

"It is also a goal for his confidence. He makes a difference: he can score on a counter-attack; he can score free-kicks; create from corner kicks.

"So he's a top player, it was so important for him to score and for us as well, because the more confidence he gets is better for us. - PA Sport
