Two pillars of smoke rise in a hall filled with hundreds of eager fans. Four young, sexy ebony-dressed dancers emerge on stage. They align to welcome none other than the fervently-awaited superstar, Jason Derulo. Suave and captivating, the young idol mesmerizes the audience in his all-black attire and electro-metallic red-and-black sneakers, progressing into an exhilarating dance intro.
Taking centre-stage and grooving to hip-hop smooth and pop-thrilling moves, the 21-year-old sent jaws dropping, and not necessarily all ladies'. Screams and cheers of 'Jason' could be heard all over; from the time he kicks off with 'Sky is the Limit' to 'Ridin' Solo'. He also does a cover on Justin Timberlake's 'Sexy Back', and samples that he worked on like Daft Punk's 'All around the World', and 'Perfect Girl'.
One could feel an aura of 'togetherness'; a unified cluster of joy and excitement. However, not all that excitement is for Derulo as the backup dancers are amazing to say the least. Not only do they have amazing bodies and dance moves, the chemistry they emit and share between them is explosive! What sets the stage on fire however is Jason, the sensation of the night and the sole puppeteer of the ladies' hearts.
Unlike many artistes, Jason and his dancers are very interactive with the audience. At one point in his song 'What if', he sits down at the edge of the stage, and the ladies can't help but go bananas and have their life-defining moment as they touch him with euphoria and disbelief.
One particularly lucky girl gets pulled up to the stage and is sat down on a chair, where Jason so charmingly walks towards her singing 'Perfect Girl'. Staring deeply into her eyes, she helplessly turns pink. All the ladies scream in envy as he then goes on to hold her hand, and kiss it. It is clear to the naked eye that the lucky young lady dissolves into jam and butter soon after. (She also got a hug!)
Jason's charm and talent didn't just magically appear to him; it had been present since childhood. He wrote his first song, 'Crush on You' at the tender age of 8, for his crush Amy. And apart from this crooner's excellent vocals, he is also a master multi-tasker! He is able to sing and dance simultaneously while interacting even chatting and mingling during is performance without missing a beat or needing to catch his breath.
With such talent and success, we couldn't help but ask him where he was going with his career, and if he saw any possibilities of him collaborating with his childhood idols, Justin Timberlake and Usher, which he gave positive answers to.
Another project he's hoping to delve deep into is producing his own fashion line, whereby he'd like to, in his own words, 'spread his wings' and expand his creativity. This shouldn't come as a surprise as reporters during the Press Conference that he even personally designed his 'spiked' jacket, which he wore in his 'Ridin' Solo' music video.
While 'In My Head' was the finale, it was 'Whatcha Say', that proved to be the climax of the evening as Hitz Fm's JJ and Ean got the crowd all warmed up screaming 'Jason' and 'Derulo' from one end to the other.
The rate of madness further rocketed when Jason paraded his perfectly-toned abs by ripping his shirt off, grinding his body all the way down. Mimicking their boss, Jason's two cute male dancers proudly took off theirs tops too and we were left with drooling mouths and wandering minds. Fly like a bird, Derulo, fly.
