And the award for Best Local Fashion Entrepreneur goes to...
The stage was set. The model was dressed to the nines in an ensemble by RaraBlack. And she looked stunning: like she just stepped out of a magazine cover with her make-up, hairdo and striking off-shoulder dress fit for a gala dinner in a swanky, hotel ballroom.
In fact, the items she had on, had actually come out of the pages of a fashion blog. Yes, the owner of RaraBlack had made a successful transition from online to the catwalk;
Approving glances were exchanged between the judges who comprised representatives from Snips Hair Salon, A&O Brandbuilding Consultants, Emmagem.com and Shaun Model Management.
We were there seated in the front row to witness the finale of Malaysia's Online Fashion Entrepreneur award. The competition which ran simultaneously with Malaysia's Online Fashion Entrepreneurs' Weekend held from August 13 to 15 was organised by A&O Brandbuilding Consultants.
The competition which went through three stringent stages over a duration of eight weeks had managed to grab the interest of 70 blogshops, all of whom vied for the coveted title and RM 70,000 worth of prizes which range from international and domestic trips, web hosting services and more.
In that short span of time, the 70 entries were short listed by the public and judges to eight blogshop owners for the finals. They were Chiino Pieces, MyFavouritees, RaraBlack, Quirky Brown Cow, Nakalicious, Tres Tresors, Mystique Boutique and Soul Chic.
Aside from the parade of models on the catwalk, these entrepreneurs were also called upon on stage to give a brief description as to what inspired them to dress their models from head to toe as such and were also quizzed on the reason behind their shop's own collection.
At the end of the competition, the result was announced for the Search of Malaysia's Online Fashion Entrepreneur with MyFavouritees taking third place, Soul Chic got second place while the grand prize winner went to Quirky Brown Cow for their eclectic vintage wear.
There were also additional awards for 'Outstanding Performance' where the fashion bloggers were judged for being the highest achieving contestants in terms of the number of online votes they received and the interaction generated on their blogs: These titles went to Rara Black and Tres Tresors.
