This week The Circle features a student project that challenges you to think about what is real and what is not.

Imagine a world where all you know and believe is just a mere distortion of reality. That is 'Terrorvision'.
It is an interactive art installation that features five different television sets from previous generations and a seat overlooking these television screens. On all these television screens is a vision of a  girl, a representation of beauty.

As a viewer takes a seat in the sole chair provided, the images on the screen start distorting into a scene from your nightmares, going back to normal only after the viewer leaves his seat.

Terrorvision is the brainchild of Mohd Adam Jalaludin who was inspired by people's connection to the movies and how at times that line between fantasy and reality is blurred.

"I personally believe that movies and the (broadcast) media are just a form of escapism. The truth is that most movies are just figments of someone's imagination. Sometimes people get so caught up with the idea of a happy ending, that they spend more time watching movies instead of going out to explore the world." Adam explained.

That is also the base concept behind this project. The girl on the screen represents the basic misconception or stereotype of beauty that is portrayed by the media (fair skinned, skinny, etc), but is that the actual concept of beauty?

'Terrorvision' challenges people to see beyond that, to leave their chairs and find true beauty for themselves.
Adam gives special thanks to the late Yasmin Ahmad as she was a big inspiration for him while putting this project together.
