Raymond V Raymond
Usher (R&B)
There is no doubt that Usher can sing, and he continues to impress with Raymond V Raymond. This R&B effort is another good album from Usher, who has had a long and prolific career. Some stand-out tunes are 'Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home)', which has a catchy beat and a solid melody, and is destined for club and dance mixes. However, I found the lyrics quite disturbing...
The opening track, 'Monstar', is a radio-friendly hit that brings to mind some of his other famous hits like 'Yeah!' or 'You Make Wanna'. The song that has already dominated the R&B charts and the club scene, 'OMG' with Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas, is sure to get your feet moving.
There are a few slow, crooning songs in this album. Perhaps this album marks a new development in his career as one that is more hip and contemporary, and more mature as an artist. His vocals are perfect still, but Usher is more provocative in this album.
I found that some of the other songs begin to sound the same after listening further into this 14-track album. But I think long-time fans will rush out to buy this album anyway.

Is This The Day?
Hoobastank (Rock)
Hoobastank's new acoustic album features a few new tracks plus most of their popular hits. However, there just seems to be a certain something lacking when their usual guitar riffs and drums are ditched.

Cheryl Cole (Pop)
This foremost solo effort from former Girls Aloud member and footballer ex-wife plays it safe, but perhaps too safe as it stays pretty much within the realm of mediocrity. Strictly for fans.

Believe
Orianthi (Rock)
Michael Jackson's former guitarist is perhaps the silver lining to the passing of the pop legend, as this girl proves to be quite a discovery. She shows great potential, and with more fine-tuning she is definitely one to watch.

Various Artistes (Compilation)
Compilations of current hit songs are always a foolproof idea, and this collection comprises all the hard-hitters. Great for those who can't get enough of them on radio.
