Hear Me Now, they said. It's just between You And I. And we're giving you Something More... True enough, every fan of Secondhand Serenade got more than what they hoped for.
It was a night to remember for fans of Secondhand Serenade as the acoustic-rock outfit was in town for their first Malaysian concert. Performing at the Bentley Music Auditorium in Mutiara Damansara, they performed to an audience of close to 800, comprising mostly diehard teenage boys and girls. Many turned up as early as 5pm in order to catch their idols perform live.
Fronted by vocalist and guitarist John Vesely, the California-based outfit, was here to promote their third and latest album 'Hear Me Now', but they certainly pleased fans by playing all their older tracks and fan favourites. The band was completed on stage by John's brother and bassist, Lukas Vesely, lead guitarist Ryan Cook and Tom Breyfogle on drums.
Fans went wild, enthusiastically singing along in joy to each and every song as the Secondhand Serenade performed hits from all three albums like 'You and I', 'Something More', 'Vulnerable' and 'Your Call'. Clearly touched by the sheer support of the Malaysian audience, John said, "You're in danger of giving us one of our best concerts ever!" He even received a decorated t-shirt from the audience while on stage, which he held up for everyone to appreciate. "Please come back? But we haven't even left!" proclaimed John as he read the words on the t-shirt, much to the laughter of the fans.
The band also performed a cover of Coldplay's 'Fix You'. They later ended their performance with a rousing rendition of 'Fall For You' with John on keyboard. There were clearly lots of smiles among the audience as they passionately sang along.
The night kicked off earlier with cheerful performances from local artistes, with 19-year-old songstress Diandra Arjunaidi wowing the crowd with her soulful acoustic performances and alternative rock band Ask Me Again thrilling the crowd with their high energy alternative rock act.
Immediately after the concert, fans were treated to an autograph signing session, with a large percentage of fans staying back for the chance to meet their idols in the flesh. To spice things even further, the band members jumped into the crowd after the session, pleasing already ecstatic fans. Certainly such sporting behaviour is something we don't hear often when it comes to foreign performers in Malaysia. Secondhand Serenade later followed their concert with a lively after party at The Library at e@Curve, which was sponsored by the venue.
Secondhand Serenade Live in Kuala Lumpur was presented by Kayu Nasi Kandar and supported by Warner Music and hitz.fm, with their Morning Crew radio announcer Ean emceeing the event.
