Third KLIMUN A Roaring Success

Youths are often associated with their passion for fun and games, and just having a good time, but at KLIMUN, they proved that they have much substance, they care for what happens to the world and its citizens.

"We have to make hard choices" says President Obama, "to put the video games away from our Kids" ...even he would have been proud of the energy exercised and the passion displayed at the 3rd Kuala Lumpur International Model United Nations (KLIMUN). Delegates put more than video games away, they signified intent and personified purpose and self denial for one week in the sublime simulation of the parliamentary proceedings of the United Nations. For Delegates, the high level of absolute enthusiasm demonstrated was a discovery that signified their willingness to learn and lead early in their lives.

Gathered to echo the theme- "Fighting the Battle to Eradicate Poverty", Delegates shared everything from knowledge to cash, donating RM1 each for seven consecutive days to support the work of the Educational Welfare and Research Foundation (EWRF) in educating less privileged children.

The real drama however was elsewhere, in the separate political, economics, human rights, technology and ecological chambers with detached issues to debate sternly on, and vote for and against. Some of the issues were:

The Question of a Global Legislation for Green Modes of Transport.

The Question of the Situation of and Assistance to Palestinian Women.

The Question of the Free Distribution of Anti-Retroviral Drugs.

The Question of the Role of Microcredit and Microfinance in the Eradication of Poverty.

The Question of Investments in Stem Cell Research.

The Question of a Sustainable Ceasefire in Gaza.

For all these issues, 17 resolutions of high definition were written by formed allegiances to facilitate the debates. Only six of these were eventually passed to the General Assembly on four counts of vote margin, quality of resolution, quality of debate and the composure of the speakers. In all, 37 countries were represented across all continents with seven different nationalities represented at the 3rd KLIMUN.

It was not always serious energy but diplomatic excitement as well, from the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), to the beach in Port Dickson and the Ballroom at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre. Delegates interacted without barriers, spirits were always high.

Dubbed the "Emancipation of KLIMUN", the 3rd KLIMUN was an entirely branded event focused on delegates' development and the highest diplomatic education possible. Thanks to INTI University College and the United Nations Association of Malaysia, KLIMUN only gets better and will live forever!
